2010 PRO-WEST RODEO QUEEN
Amanda Hunter
Raised
in the shadows of the Cascade Mountains, Miss PRO-WEST 2010, Amanda Hunter,
hails from Sedro-Woolley, Washington. This ‘sweet Dixie flower’ is the
daughter of Christine and the late Dave Hunter. She is the middle child of
three, with two sisters, Michelle and Carolyn, like any cowboy she knows
that ‘blood is thicker than water.’
Being raised in a small logging and rodeo town, Amanda never thought that she ‘should have been a cowboy’ since she has been a cowboy in training ever since she was knee high to a grasshopper. She was raised on a horse with ‘her home ‘neath that big blue sky.’ Amanda started out down the rodeo trail at the tender age of five and has not strayed from it. She traveled with her mom to various rodeos in the northwest, learning the ropes in many different ways. It was here that she fell in love with the sport of rodeo and the western way of life. ‘Sleeping out all night beneath the desert stars’ and being ‘outlaws on the run’ were part of the intrigue of being a cowboy.
In her quest to become the greatest cowboy on earth, Amanda joined 4-H. She participated for 13 years where she showed English, Western and Gymkhana. In 1998, Amanda joined Pony Club, where she found her love for jumping and 3-day eventing. She is now a volunteer 4-H leader and instructor for both and loves teaching youth about horsemanship and riding skills
However Amanda has not always been working towards being an old western cowboy, she was and still is, very active in school. As a 2006 graduate of Sedro-Woolley High School, Amanda played varsity basketball and soccer. After high school she attended Skagit Valley College where she was a starting member on the Women’s Soccer Team and earned her Associates degree.
Amanda is a currently a senior attending Central Washington University where she will double major in Anthropology and Environmental Studies. There she is an active member of the Rodeo Club and the President of the Equestrian Team. After graduating she plans on running a top of the line horse facility with her two sisters.
Amanda it thrilled for her upcoming year. As Miss PRO-WEST she will strive to be friendly with her wave, quick with her smile, generous with her time and a role model to all.
